Dear VSA friends and members,

We at VSA are greatly saddened to see the vandalism of VSA and NASU office this morning. If you have not noticed the incident, someone slashed, shredded, and vandalized our VSA logo on the ground in front of our office in the EMU.

We wish to promote tolerance, peace, understanding and friendship to all students, irregardless of their race or nationality. Although it is shocking and saddening to have this happen to us, we will NOT be intimidated by this cowardly and disgusting act. To the individual who did this to us, we want to make this personally clear: You do NOT scare us, you will NOT break us, and you will NOT crush our resolve to promote and celebrate our culture here at our University.

While the act is unacceptable, we are overwhelmed by the tremendous support and love from individuals and groups inside and outside the University of Oregon. And on behalf of VSA executive team, we’d like to extend the warmest thank you to everyone who stands with us, especially the staff of Center for Multicultural Academic Excellence.

One of our mission at the University is to raise cultural awareness and act as a resource for our members and UO students. We will continue, as always, to provide a family to our members, serve as a resource to our campus, and stand in solidarity against racism, prejudice, ignorance and cowardice. This act will not stop us from moving.

Sincerely,

On behalf of Vietnamese Student Association at the University of Oregon

Thao Bui and Duy-Chi Nguyen – VSA Co-Directors.
