The following is the list of VSA executive positions for next year and their descriptions:

  • Co-Directors (2): Set vision for the group, delegate tasks to the executive team, closely monitor activities and events, keep a close connection with other departments on campus, look for resources, represent VSA on campus, resolve internal and external issues if needed, provide support to other executive members if needed.
  • Internal Affairs Coordinator: Oversee the budget for the current year and propose a budget for the following year. In charge of getting the necessary funds for events throughout the year and allocating those funds to necessary components for successful events.
  • Public Relations Coordinator: Manage VSA’s outreach and public relations, including emails, website postings, and maintaining an online presence for the group. During bigger events or fundraiser events, ensure posters are printed and distributed, send out emails to different listservs on campus (and off if relevant), write press releases, promoting events via social networks, and spread word of mouth in general.
  • Programs Coordinator: Schedule dates and times and book rooms for VSA4Kids (usually biweekly meetings); maintain connections with families and send out reminders ahead of time, invite families to events; write POs for and purchase food for VSA4Kids events, send out invitations to all other ASUO programs, plan out the day’s lesson and activities.
  • Media Coordinator: Manage VSA’s visual branding, including the design of posters, banners, flyers, and any required graphics/advertisement pertaining to events, documenting VSA events through photo and/or video, updating and maintaining all the visual components of VSA’s social networking sites and the website itself (minimal CIS knowledge required in operating the VSA website).

All positions require executives to attend weekly meetings and any other events that VSA is organizing, including but not limited to, fundraisers, Fall Reception, Culture Night, Tet Celebration, and Pho Night. While we understand that each and every one of us are busy with school, work, and (hopefully) social lives, these positions are demanding and we recommend that candidates consider their time commitments before running. Nevertheless, we aim to support one another in the process of organizing events and help each other grow along the way. Each year’s VSA is different from the last, and we do offer that flexibility for the team to start new events or bring more people, and, after all, VSA is what you make of it.

We’ll be taking nominations Week 6 (May) and up until the following week. One person can be nominated for two positions, however, you need to decide on the ONE position you’re running for up until the following Thursday (May 14). Speeches will take place Week 8 (May 21).
