Vietnam has always been portrayed as a failed attempt of the U.S military at inserting their presence on foreign soil. Yet, many do not know that despite its war-torn past, Vietnam is a country of 4,000 thriving years of cultural history.
On April 8th, the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) at the University of Oregon will attempt to alter that perception and introduce over 300 people of the audience to the wonder of Vietnamese culture. Group members will be participating in the Culture Night event, held at the EMU Ballroom, hoping to deliver a phenomenal cultural event to the general student population as well as the Eugene community.
VSA’s Culture Night is widely regarded as one of the best cultural events at the university. This year’s theme is “Stories Unfold: Mine, Yours, and Ours”, which highlights the importance of diversity and the coming together of students in the face of adversity. VSA’s Culture Night this year consists of nine traditional and modern performances. We are very excited to bring you a wonderful show that we have been working very hard on. Dinner will also be served by the University of Oregon Catering Service during intermission.
In addition to showcasing Vietnamese culture, VSA hope to use this event as a means to promote the work of Children of Vietnam, our Collective Philanthropic Project this year. They are a non-profit organization that provides aid for disadvantaged Vietnamese children that were profoundly impacted by the residual herbicide Agent Orange used during the Vietnam war.
The tickets are now on sale at EMU Ticket Office. It is $5 for students and $6 for general public. Click here to go to our Facebook event page. If you want to reserve a table for your group, please contact Duc Bach at dbach@uoregon.edu for reservation. Please join us for an exciting evening to learn more about the rich culture that Vietnam has to offer. Hope to see your lovely faces there!
